DP World

Oktra were tasked with refurbishing the European regional office of global logistics company DP World as part of its business transformation journey.

The goal was to reimagine the workspace into a vibrant, future-facing environment that supports collaboration, reflects the company’s refreshed visual identity, and enhances the experience for employees, stakeholders, and visitors alike.

Design Objectives

  • Transform the existing office into a modern, collaborative, and welcoming space.
  • Improve access to natural light, external views, and the wrap-around terrace.
  • Support staff wellbeing and create an inspiring workplace journey.
  • Incorporate sustainable design practices and minimise environmental impact.
  • Visually reflect DP World’s brand evolution and global heritage.

One of the main challenges was the existing interior architecture, which limited access to daylight and exterior views. Oktra addressed this by reconfiguring internal partitions to establish a circulation route around the perimeter of the office. This strategic design decision not only opened up panoramic views of London and provided direct access to the terrace but also significantly increased natural light penetration throughout the space.

Carefully selected furniture played a pivotal role in shaping different working environments:

  • Touchdown & Breakout Spaces: Connection Hygge chairs paired with Connection Omni tables foster informal interactions and flexible working.
  • Quiet Work Zones: Luna work café chairs in a soft Peach tone introduced colour and comfort, while maintaining a professional aesthetic.
  • Canteen Area: Populated with Canova work café chairs, blending practicality and style for communal dining and social engagement.

Sustainability was integral to the refurbishment, with DP World and Oktra implementing several environmentally conscious strategies throughout the project. To reduce waste and embodied carbon, 60% of the original office furniture was retained and reused. Components from old storage units were upcycled to create new worktops for the phone booths, demonstrating a creative approach to material reuse. Additionally, carpets containing a high percentage of recycled content were selected, and all materials were carefully chosen to minimise the amount of waste sent to landfill, further reinforcing the project’s commitment to sustainability.

These efforts culminated in the project receiving a Ska Gold Rating, recognising the outstanding sustainable practices and significant improvements in access to natural light, outdoor space, and wellness-enhancing features.

The redesigned DP World office now serves as a dynamic, future-ready workplace that supports the company’s ongoing transformation. It honours the organisation’s heritage while embracing innovation and sustainability. With improved functionality, aesthetics, and environmental performance, the space reflects DP World’s commitment to its people and planet.
