New England Biolabs

When SRA Architects partnered with Total Projects Ltd to design a new workplace for New England Biolabs, the goal was clear, to create an environment that seamlessly integrates advanced laboratory functionality with inspiring, people-focused office spaces.

The new facility needed to uphold the highest standards of safety and hygiene while fostering collaboration, comfort, and wellbeing for employees.

The project team envisioned a workspace that reflected New England Biolabs’ innovative spirit a space where scientific precision meets thoughtful design. Laboratory areas were meticulously planned with hygienic, washable finishes and materials that offer low air and moisture permeability, ensuring both safety and operational integrity.

Beyond the controlled laboratory zones, the design transitions into a warm, dynamic office environment. A welcoming reception sets the tone, leading to an open-plan workspace that balances shared workstations with private executive offices. A variety of meeting rooms, collaboration areas, and quiet zones offer flexibility for every working style, while a large kitchen and breakout area provide a social hub for informal interactions.

Employee wellbeing was at the heart of the project and Connection furniture played a key role in supporting this vision.

Dixi chairs and Bask day beds introduce calming, comfortable spaces ideal for phone calls or moments of retreat from the fast-paced office.

In open-plan zones, Camden armchairs create relaxed, informal meeting spots that encourage spontaneous collaboration.

Tryst high-back booths offer both visual and acoustic privacy, making them perfect for quiet working sessions or small team discussions.

The completed New England Biolabs workspace beautifully combines precision with personality, a high-performance environment that supports both scientific excellence and employee wellbeing. Through the considered use of Connection’s furniture, the space offers balance: areas for collaboration, focus, and restoration, all within a setting that reflects the company’s forward-thinking ethos.
